DreamCatcher Productions is proud to announce that the un-produced feature length screenplay "Memories of a Non-Jewish Childhood" by Craig Paulsen won an award of achievement at the 2011 Iowa Motion Picture Awards this past Saturday. The script is based on the critically acclaimed novel by Dubuque Native Robert Byrne. Similarly, Steve Moes won an award of achievment for his un-produced feature length screenplay (based on the followup novel "Always a Catholic" also by Robert Byrne) entitled "Lost & Found". With the admission of the screenplays sponsored by DreamCatcher Productions, Joe road down to Des Moines for IMPA partaking in a wonderful night of networking and conversation with like-minded Iowa Filmmakers. Fellow producer Neal Kapp of Double Dubuque Productions, also accompanied the crew down representing Craig Paulsen in his absence. Charlie Cunliffe, of Creative Maxims and director of the Lake Delhi Documentary, won achievement awards for his narrative film "Special Delivery" in the categories of music and short entertainment.
“These scripts are the foundation for movies that should be produced in Iowa,” Joe said to IMPA featured speaker Wendol Jarvis. Mr. Jarvis played a vital role in Iowa's motion picture success. The original head of the Iowa Film Office, Wendol helped bring hundreds of productions to Iowa, including Field of Dreams, Country, The Straight Story, Starman, Miles from Home, The Bridges of Madison County and Twister. During the IMPA event, Wendol Jarvis shared his unique perspective on the film industry in Iowa and how it is moving ahead.
The award of excellence for un-produced screenplays was awarded to the famed mystery novel author Max Allan Collins for his script "Interstate 666". Collins is responsible for writing the graphic novel "Road to Perdition" which led to the successful hollywood film adaptation.
